Structures assisting the migrations of non-salmonid fish: Latin America. COPESCAL TECHNICAL PAPER 5.

Managing inland fisheries
01/01/1989

This technical paper summarizes data available in Latin America on structures designed to help fish surmount the obstacles which hinder their migrations and which are due to dam construction. It analyses installation designs, modes of operation and efficiency and discusses the reasons on which the decision to construct these facilities rather than use other fishery management methods, such as the stocking of migratory species were based. Reference is made to the existing laws which require fish pass structures to be built in dams.
