Sunbird Institute Celebrates International Mountain Day with a Two-Day Bird Survey

On December 10th and 11th, 2024, the Sunbird Institute marked International Mountain Day by conducting a two-day bird identification survey at Nainital and Naukuchiatal, Uttarakhand, India. The survey was led by environmentalists Mr. Vinay Pande and Mr. Ajay Pande, who identified and documented 36 bird species, including some migratory birds such as the Steppe Eagle (Aquila nipalensis), Himalayan Bluetail (Tarsiger rufilatus), Blue-capped Redstart (Phoenicurus coeruleocephala), and Blue-fronted Redstart (Phoenicurus frontalis).

The objective of the survey was to engage and inspire youth to appreciate and contribute to the conservation of the Himalayan biodiversity.
Based in Uttarakhand, the Sunbird Institute is a research and development organization dedicated to preserving biodiversity and promoting environmental awareness, particularly in the fragile ecosystems of the Himalayas. This bird survey is yet another step toward fostering a deeper understanding of the region's rich avian life and encouraging collective efforts for environmental sustainability.
