International Mountains Day
The event shall be organised by Dhenkanal District Intellectual Association , a civil society organisation established in March 2020 . The organisation is marking this day since 2022. The event starts with performing a ritualistic prayer of a mountain nearby the town . College , school students are invited to participate in the event . A memorandum is presented to the local Forest Officer & the Government to do the needful to protect the mountains since people have been trying to encroach upon the base to build homes , even build structures above the mountains , Others do illegal mining , cut down trees causing soil erosion in rainy season .
