© FAO/Marie-Emilie GueleTwenty fisheries inspectors and five Coastguard officers are currently taking part in a capacity building mission delivered by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Moroni, Comoros (23-27 September 2025).
Under a project funded by the European Commission, FAO experts are providing training on the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and several other international instruments for sustainable fisheries, including the FAO Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA) and related instruments to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing.
The course also covers the methodology and technical aspects of inspectors’ roles in supporting sustainable fisheries.
During this mission, FAO officers have also met with port authorities to discuss the port authority’s role in implementing the PSMA and to receive updates on ongoing discussions regarding the designation of a port.
