FAO supports PSMA seminar in China

The Bureau of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China organized, from 17-19 December 2025 in Shanghai, China, an International Seminar on the 2009 FAO Agreement on Port State Measures (PSMA), which is the second national capacity building training on PSMA held this year.

The Seminar was hosted by Shanghai Ocean University (SHOU), as China’s National Contact Point for PSMA, and supported by the PSMA Secretariat from FAO.

The Seminar was opened by Professor HU Wei, President of SHOU, Dr Matthew Camilleri, Technical Secretary of the PSMA, and Mr SUN Haiwen, Deputy Director General of the Bureau of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of China.

Seventy-two officials from the Ministry of Transport, National Immigration, Bureau of Fisheries, Fisheries Law Enforcement Centre, Marine and Fisheries Administrative Law Enforcement, Provincial Departments of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Municipal Marine and Fisheries Supervision and Inspection Detachments, Shanghai Ocean University, Zhejiang Ocean University, and representatives from the private sector, participated in the seminar.

The Seminar was strengthened with the support, through sharing of experiences on the implementation of the PSMA, by international experts from Chile, France, Morocco, Sri Lanka, Thailand, the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission and the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission.
