The sixth meeting of the Global Record Informal Open-Ended Technical and Advisory Working Group is meeting today at FAO Headquarters in Rome, Italy.

Delegates from 82 States and the European Union, together with representatives of 12 intergovernmental organizations (IGOs) and 10 non-governmental organizations (NGOs), are meeting in a hybrid mode –  with 120 in presence and 115 connected virtually – to take stock of the status of the Global Record, a phased and collaborative global initiative to make available certified data from State authorities about vessels and vessel-related activities. A new and upgraded version of the Global Record was launched earlier this year.

Since its first launch in 2017, data about more than 11 800 vessels were uploaded into the Global Record information system, with information about vessels and/or ports provided by 66 States.

During this meeting, participants will be discussing new features for the information system to encourage its further use, as well as the role that the Global Record can fulfil in support of the implementation of international instruments promoting sustainable fishing.

During the meeting, participants will also be discussing assistance being provided to developing States and how this support can be further provided.

The sixth meeting of the Global Record Informal Open-Ended Technical and Advisory Working Group is being held with the financial support of the European Union, the Republic of Korea, Norway, Spain and Sweden.

The Global Record is developed and maintained by FAO with the support of the European Union, Iceland, Spain, Sweden, and the United States of America.
