The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations has opened the call for applications from 22 September to 15 October 2025, for farmer groups within the Lake Region Economic Block (LREB) for the TUNZA project.

TUNZA is a community led initiative funded by the Green Climate Fund, with additional co-financing mobilized through the Government of Denmark, FAO, and the Government of Kenya. Working through groups and cooperatives, it seeks to improve livelihoods through sustainable climate resilient, low carbon (improved production, harvesting and marketing) on six value chains.  Namely:  African Leafy Vegetables, Coffee, Diary, Fruit trees, Poultry and Tea.

We are currently on boarding farmers who would like to participate in the farmer field schools in who are in the aforementioned value chains. The selected farmers should expect:

  • Enhanced Climate Resilience: develop stronger resilience to climate impacts to better manage risks and adapt to changing environmental conditions.
  • Increased Income: opportunities for financial growth and stability.
  • Access to Better Markets: opening new market opportunities through improved production, processing and marketing.
  • Land Restoration: restore, conserve, and reforest community lands, forests, and wetlands for better production and sustainable farming environments.
