Global Precipitation Climatology Center (GPCC)

The Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC) is a specialized Centre supporting climate monitoring and research, operated by the Deutscher Wetterdienst under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organization. GPCC disseminates global daily or monthly precipitation data (ftp://ftp-anon.dwd.de/pub/data/gpcc/html/download_gate.html) in spatial resolutions (from 0.5° to 2.5°, or roughly 50-250 km) for different time periods (the most complete one from 1901 to 2015). Data can be visualized or downloaded using the GPCC Visualizer web interface in various formats, including image, PDF and GIS compatible formats. GPCC data can be useful for large-scale hydrological applications, analysis of climate trends and extremes, drought monitoring, rainfall probability assessments, and can (with caution) be downscaled using appropriate techniques.
