New webinar “Understanding the basics of environmental Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) for national action"

The Webinar “Understanding the basics of environmental Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) for national action" is part of the “Antimicrobial Resistance in the Environment Webinar Series” produced by the Quadripartite of FAO, UNEP, WHO and WOAH, to address health threats at the human-animal-plant-environment interface and to promote health and sustainable development.

This webinar series is developed in the framework of the FAO Land and Water Division's One Health project which focuses on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in the Environment. This project promotes awareness and actions on AMR in the environment at national level to reduce risks from point- and nonpoint-source pollution from human, animal and plant production and communities, healthcare facilities and manufacturing, through safe wastewater treatment and reuse, AgriWASH and WASH and wastewater management.

This first webinar “Understanding the basics of environmental Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) for national action" provides an overview of:

  • The basics of environmental AMR including global AMR risk to human and animal health, food systems, ecosystems, livelihoods and economies
  • Overarching principles and terminologies, foundational understanding of key sources of environmental AMR and approaches to prevent and control AMR in the environment
  • Strategies to strengthen the involvement of the environment in NAPs and processes
