Global Livestock Environmental Assessment Model (GLEAM)

The Global Livestock Environmental Assessment Model (GLEAM) is developed by FAO to quantify natural resources use in the livestock sector. It is a global, spatially explicit and biophysical model reproducing all steps of production in a variety of species and production systems. GLEAM can be used in the assessments of greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation options, as well as in impact assessments of droughts, through its feed module. GLEAM calculates the animal requirements by production system and animal categories and, under a given scenario of biomass availability, the model estimates the composition of feed rations (e.g. browsing, crop residues, by products etc.) and animal performances.
