28/01/2025

Funded by the Government of Canada, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, hosted a workshop to kick off the "Enhancing Food and Nutrition Security in Lebanon" project.

This workshop was an important first step in the project, bringing together various groups such as farmers, government officials, private businesses, and NGOs. It provided a platform for everyone to understand the project’s goals, plans, and how they can contribute.

The event aimed to create a sense of teamwork and encourage open discussions among all participants.

The successful start of the project through this workshop sets a solid foundation for the upcoming phases, which will focus on enhancing food and nutrition security across Lebanon.

About the project

The "Enhancing Food and Nutrition Security in Lebanon" project, led by FAO with support from Canada's government and Lebanon's Ministry of Agriculture, focuses on strengthening agricultural value chains for apples and vegetables. It promotes sustainable, gender-responsive farming practices to support small-scale farmers, especially women, while improving resilience to climate and economic challenges. Key efforts include training, providing resources, and encouraging collaboration through cooperatives. The project also incorporates renewable energy and innovative technologies to boost competitiveness and sustainability, contributing to Lebanon's food security, economic recovery, and progress toward the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.
