The SADC Parliamentary Alliance on Agrifood Systems, Food Security, and Nutrition will be launched on December 9, 2024 during the 56th Plenary Assembly of the SADC Parliamentary Forum. 

The creation of the Alliance is the result of collaborative efforts of the SADC Parliamentary Forum (SADC PF), the Subregional Office for Southern Africa, the Development Law Service and the Partnerships Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). This Alliance builds on FAO's sustained support for parliamentary engagement in evidence-based policy and law-making, inclusive dialogue and capacity-development in support of sustainable agrifood systems transformation and food security and nutrition in the Southern African region.

The Alliance aligns with key regional and global frameworks, including the SADC Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP), the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Global Parliamentary Pact Against Hunger and Malnutrition. It reflects FAO's commitment to fostering transformative partnerships and the SADC PF’s mission to strengthen regional integration through effective parliamentary action.

This initiative also capitalizes on FAO’s collaboration with the SADC PF, furthering efforts to establish a regional parliamentary platform for agrifood systems, food security and nutrition.
