LEGN contributes to World Wildlife Day celebrations through the SWM Programme

The development and enforcement of appropriate legal frameworks is critical to help conserve wildlife, reduce poverty and improve food security. LEGN supports the Sustainable Wildlife Management (SWM) Programme in multiple ways, and particularly through the Legal Hub, a user-friendly platform that provides easy access to legal texts and insightful analysis on all sectors related to sustainable wildlife management in over a dozen countries. The Legal Hub is now helping catalyse legal reform processes in many of these countries. On 3rd March, World Wildlife Day, LEGN and the SWM Programme celebrated the occasion with the launch of several key resources, reinforcing their commitment to sustainable and effective wildlife governance:
- FAO Forestry Op-ed explores how the SWM Programme is using donor funding as a catalyst for better wildlife management and investment in nature
- SWM Programme innovation case study: “Novel approaches for engaging Indigenous Peoples and local communities on wildlife and food security”
- Story on Chipo (Zimbabwe): “A gift for conservation helps reduce conflict between humans and wildlife”, and includes the recent video on Chipo’s work in Zimbabwe
- Papua New Guinea videos on:
- A Joint Statementof the Partnership on Sustainable Wildlife Management (CPW)—a coalition of thirteen international organizations, including FAO —reaffirms its commitment to advancing sustainable wildlife management through strategic cooperation, joint initiatives, and innovative financing.
