FAO hosts a Three-Day Training Workshop funded by The United Arab Emirates in Bong County

Bong, Liberia - The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) hosted a three-day training workshop on Intensive Vegetable Production, Farm Business Management, and Marketing for Lead farmers, County Agriculture Coordinators, and District Agriculture Extension Officers in Bong County, Liberia. The training funded by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is supporting the Government of Liberia through the project titled ‘Promoting Increased Resilience and Sustainable Income Generation, Food Security and Nutrition for Rural Women.’ The project objective is to increase food security and resilience of rural women farmers and their families, particularly children under five through strengthened income-generating capacity. The program held at CARI compound consisted of 29 participants (15 men and 14 women). The participants were from Gbarpolu, Bong, Nimba, Lofa, and Bomi counties. A team of facilitators from FAO and the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) facilitated the training sessions.

The training is designed to enhance the practical knowledge and skills of extension workers and lead farmers on good agricultural practices with emphasis on improved and intensive vegetable production practices, and marketing. With the completion of this introductory training by all 29 participants, the project team intends to build on the opportunities to commence the delivery of proposed field-based trainings using farmer field school methodology. The participants were grateful to FAO, MoA, and the donor – UAE for the continual capacity building support.
