General situation during March 2026 Forecast for April 2026 

Moroccan locust (DMA) hatching started in Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. No hatching of DMA or other species was reported elsewhere. During the forecast period, in the above mentioned countries, DMA mass hatching will be completed and hopper development will continue. DMA mass hatching will start in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation, as well as in Azerbaijan and Georgia. Italian locust (CIT) hatching will start in the southern Central Asian (CA) countries at the end of the forecast period. Asian migratory locust (LMI) hatching is not expected in April. The control operations against DMA started in Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in March, with an overall treated area of 8286 hectares (ha) by the end of the month, which is 2.5 times higher than in 2025 (3321 ha in 2025).
