General Situation during April 2025 Forecast for May 2025

 Moroccan locust (DMA) hatching and hopper development were in progress in all Central Asian (CA) countries in April. Italian locust (CIT) hatching was recorded in southern Kazakhstan and northern Uzbekistan at the end of the month. No Asian Migratory locust (LMI) hatching was observed. During the forecast period, DMA fledging and mating will occur in CA while hatching will start, followed by hopper development, in the Caucasus and the Russian Federation. CIT hatching will start in other Caucasus and Central Asian (CCA) countries. LMI hatching may start in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation and Uzbekistan. The chemically treated area in CA reached 614 556 hectares (ha) by the end of April, which is about 80% higher compared to the same period of 2024 (335 094 ha).
