Global engagement

FAO supports the deliberations of the Group of 7 (G7) and the Group of 20 (G20) with evidence-based policy advice, technical inputs, thematic reports and proposals for concrete actions that support the provision of global public goods in the area of food security and sustainable agriculture. The countries brought together in these groups are key players in the food and agriculture sector, making these meetings important venues for policy dialogue and coordinated action. The G20 has launched a number of initiatives to address knowledge gaps in food and agriculture, such as the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS), the Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP), and the Technical Platform on the Measurement and Reduction of Food Loss and Waste.

FAO supports these country-led processes by:

providing technical inputs to inform and guide the dialogue among Members;

producing thematic reports and technical notes on issues related to food and agriculture; .

proposing concrete actions that promote a balanced and inclusive international food system;

sharing FAO’s knowledge on the discussions, positions, agreements and previous initiatives, as well as reflecting on resolutions adopted by the FAO Council and the Committee on World Food Security (CFS) to facilitate coherence between agreements and initiatives over the years, and to avoid duplication of efforts; and

hosting G20 initiatives, which ensures continuity of the work initiated under different presidencies, including the global Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS), the Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP), and the Technical Platform on the Measurement and Reduction of Food Loss and Waste.
