DescriptionApproved the feeding of camelina sativa meal to broiler chickens.
NotesIn recent years, camelina sativa, an oilseed belonging to the brassica family, started attracting interest in Canada and the United States due to the suitability of its oil for a variety of industrial uses, including as feedstock in the production of road and aviation biofuel. Now, Canadas Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has also approved feeding of cold-pressed non-solvent extracted camelina meal to broiler chicken at up to 12 percent inclusion. Owing to its high concentration of Omega-3 oils, the meal is viewed as a valuable source for high quality feed. The approval process for feeding to laying hens has also been initiated.
