NotesA new fraud case concerning olive oil has been reported from China. According to media sources, a provincial food safety office uncovered a fraud scheme in which cooking oil companies misled consumers by deliberately overstating the percentage of olive oil contained in bottled oil blends. In general, olive oil is valued by consumers for its health properties and fetches significant price premiums over other edible oils. Chinas imports of olive oil have risen constantly in recent years.
