Millets — ancient drought-resistant grains — could help the Midwest survive climate change

Proso millet does not require a lot of water, which also makes it a good cover crop option because it won't take as much moisture from the other crops.

The United Nations has declared 2023 the International Year of Millets — small grains mostly grown in parts of Asia and Africa. The highly resilient and cost-friendly grains could make them the next crop for U.S. farmers in the midst of climate change.
