23rd session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues

New York, NY
From: 15.04.2024 to: 26.04.2024

The 23rd Session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (PFII 23) will focus on the theme, "Enhancing Indigenous Peoples’ Right to Self-determination in the Context of the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples: Emphasizing the Voices of Indigenous Youth". The session will discuss the six mandated areas of the Permanent Forum (economic and social development, culture, environment, education, health, and human rights), regarding the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) established the PFII in July 2000 to advise the UN system on Indigenous Peoples’ issues.

The Mountain Youth Hub of the Mountain Partnership will contribute to the side event "Calls to action for safeguarding seven generations in times of good, social and ecological crises" on 23 April - side event details here.
