IPROMO Summer School 2024

Ormea, Italy
From: 24.06.2024 to: 09.07.2024

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat is pleased to announce the call for applications for the 17th IPROMO summer school. This annual training programme on sustainable mountain development is jointly organized by the Mountain Partnership Secretariat at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the University of Turin, Italy, and the University of Tuscia, Italy, with the high patronage of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The theme of this year's IPROMO will be "Promoting agrifood systems and mountain products". The course will focus on promoting mountain economies by understanding sustainable agrifood systems and mountain products' potential. It will provide an overview of sustainable mountain development, identifying specific challenges and opportunities within resilient and sustainable agrifood systems, and exploring strategies to better promote mountain products.

The course will run from 24 June – 9 July 2024, with two weeks of full immersion learning. It will be held in Ormea, in northwestern Italy. The course will be conducted in person, and the language of instruction is English. The summer school will include lectures, practical work and excursions. The provisional programme is available here. The instructors are being identified and will include a mix of university professors, UN officers, and colleagues from regional and international organizations dealing with sustainable mountain development. The final programme will be available in the coming weeks on the IPROMO webpage.

About 30 professionals will be admitted to the course, and preference will be given to participants coming from countries and organizations that are members of the Mountain Partnership. This course is geared toward technical officers, hence applicants from academia will not be given priority.

Given the nature of the activities and the challenging mountain environment in which they take place, participants need to demonstrate a high level of adaptability.

Having an excellent knowledge of English; a university degree preferably in a technical area such as agriculture, forestry, biology, geology or geography; and relevant work experience are prerequisites.

Those who are interested in participating can apply online here. Accommodation, meals and field trips will be covered. Please note that only a limited number of fellowships to cover international travel are available and will be assigned by the organizing committee.

The deadline to submit applications is 23 February 2024. Applicants can expect to receive a reply by mid-March.
