SBSTA 60 side event: Mobilizing the Mountain Partnership countries for addressing climate change

Bonn, Germany
From: 04.06.2024 to: 04.06.2024

Within the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions 2023-2027 framework, this side event will foster the engagement of governments, including UNFCCC national focal points, on key actions to strengthen political alliances and support commitments for mainstreaming mountain-related issues under the UNFCCC. This includes promoting the UNFCCC Expert Dialogue on Mountains and Climate Change, scheduled for 5 June at SBSTA 60, and the Nairobi Work Programme focal point forum which has declared mountains, high latitude areas and the cryosphere as priority thematic area for 2024.

Organized by the Government of Andorra and in collaboration with the Government of Kyrgyzstan, the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) and the Mountain Partnership Secretariat, the session will also consider recommendations committed to stepping up climate adaptation action, including financing, to accelerate transformative and political momentum towards inclusive, resilient and sustainable mountain development.

The side event will be held in person on 4 June from 16.15 to 17.30 in the Bonn Room.

Session aims :

  • share views about how to strengthen political support for mountains at UNFCCC COP 29 in Azerbaijan, with a particular focus on the UNFCCC Expert Dialogue on Mountains and Climate Change
