International Glacier and Mountain Ecosystems Forum

The International Glacier and Mountain Ecosystems Forum is an event that seeks to exchange experiences and knowledge about glaciers and mountain ecosystems, promoting opportunities for cooperation between public institutions, civil society organizations, business and academia, for the implementation of research on sustainable development of mountain populations.

During the forum, there will be four thematic working groups seeking to exchange experiences gained during investigations. The working groups will be held the first two days of the event. These are:
1. Risks associated with glacier and mountain ecosystems
2. Water resources of glaciers and mountain ecosystems
3. Biodiversity and sustainable use of mountain ecosystems to ensure food security
4. Funding mechanisms for the management of mountain ecosystems

On the third day, the working groups will state their results and proposals. The International Glacier and Mountain Ecosystems Forum will be held every three years, so in order to that in the following analysze and evaluate the progress and results of the commitments made at the previous forum.

The forum is organized by Instituto Nacional de Investigaciones en Glaciares y Ecosistemas de Montaña [National Institute for Research in Glacier and Mountain Ecosystems] (INAIGEM), with support from the Peruvian Ministry of Environment (MINAM), Autoridad Nacional del Agua (ANA), Consortium for Sustainable Development of the Andean Ecoregion (CONDESAN), CARE Perú, The Mountain Institute, Universidad Agraria La Molina, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation and Naturaleza y Cultura Internacional (NCI).
