After hosting the Fourth International Women of the Mountain Conference (October 2015) and celebrating International Mountain Day (December 2015), the next big event on the Utah Valley University (UVU) agenda is a celebration of International Women’s Day.

This year the event will be held on 7 March Co-organized by the Utah International Mountain Forum, a coalition of student clubs at UVU www.utahimf.org, and the UVU Centre for Global & Intercultural Engagement and the Department of History and Political Science.

The programme will start with a roundtable of UVU students discussing major results and priorities in gender and sustainable mountain development advocacy in the state of Utah and Rocky Mountain region as part of SDG implementation and 2030 Development Agenda of the United Nations.

It will be followed by presentation of certificates of the Mountain Partnership to the contributors of the Fourth International Women of the Mountains Conference. The celebration will continue with a screening of “To Climb a Gold Mountain”, a documentary telling the stories of four women of Asian descent who lived in America over the span of 160 years, each one fighting in her own way to make a difference.

At the end of the gathering, the guests will have an opportunity to engage in a discussion with Alex Azmi, director and executive producer of the documentary.
