Regional Great Lakes Stakeholders Forum

As part of a regional project entitled Stakeholders Engagement for Informed Decision-Making, Threats Mitigation and Sustainable Fresh Water Services Management in the Great Lakes Region of East and Central Africa, ARCOS is holding a regional stakeholders forum with the theme 'Addressing the drivers of change in the Freshwater Systems of the Great Lakes Region'.

The two-day event will take place in Kigali, Rwanda in the framework of the project ARCOS is implementing with funding support from the MacArthur Foundation and in partnership with Lake Tanganyika Authority, Nile Basin Discourse, Ramsar Centre for Eastern Africa, BirdLife International/Africa Partnership Secretariat and IUCN-Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Office.

During the meeting, the new MacArthur Foundation’s Great Lakes Conservation Strategy will be launched and actions to address drivers of change in the Great Lakes freshwater systems discussed. Mechanisms will also be established for the Eastern Africa Water Towers Initiative in the context of the Mountain Partnership.
