Addressing the Loss of Biodiversity in the Alpine region: Exchange on Implementation of National, European and Global Biodiversity Strategies

Online
From: 17.04.2023 to: 17.04.2023

The Alpine Biodiversity Board of the Alpine Convention and the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation are organizing an online international exchange workshop on 17 April 2023, from 14.00 to 17.45 CEST, titled "Addressing the Loss of Biodiversity in the Alpine region: Exchange on Implementation of National, European and Global Biodiversity Strategies".

As a result of climate change and other significant drivers, biodiversity in the Alps is being lost at an alarming rate. Governments aim to counteract this situation by developing and implementing respective strategies. This peer exchange and learning event aims at increasing alignment and efficiency in the implementation of biodiversity strategies in the Alpine region. The specific focus is set on National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBASPs). The workshop also aims at enhancing transboundary cooperation on setting and implementing biodiversity targets.

In the first part of the workshop, national focal points responsible for the NBSAP processes will exchange on the state of the art and jointly identify common challenges and opportunities, specifically with regard to mountain biodiversity. In the seconds part, the ways and instruments for implementing the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 and the new Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework in the Alpine context will be explored.
