Hybrid Event, 21/01/2025
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and UNESCO, with the support of Tajikistan and France, are pleased to announce the official launch of the 2025 International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation. This landmark event will take place on 21 January 2025 and marks the beginning of a global campaign dedicated to protecting glaciers and addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change.
The event will feature a high-level “curtain-raiser” to officially inaugurate the year. Following this, a series of 1-hour online events will be accessible globally, providing an inclusive platform for awareness-raising and action.
Member States, partners, and stakeholders are encouraged to host local side events as part of this global initiative. These events can be tailored to regional and local priorities, ensuring diverse and meaningful contributions to glacier preservation efforts. Together, we can inspire action and make a lasting impact on one of the planet’s most vital ecosystems.
