National Agency of Protected Areas of Albania

The National Agency of Protected Areas is the main state institution responsible for the protection and conservation of nature and biodiversity in Albania. Its main mission is to take care of the natural resources in Albania through the management of the network of protected areas by promoting their values, increasing public awareness and environmental education activities, and supporting sustainable socio-economic activities within the protected areas. The agency is managing more than 16 percent of the national territory, the majority of which is in mountain areas.
