The Juan de Castellanos University Foundation is a higher education institution, founded by the Catholic Church in 1987 and located in the city of Tunja in the department of Boyaca – an Andean region in Colombia. Currently, more than 4 200 students attend the university, which has 300 teachers divided among five faculties that offer 20 undergraduate and graduate courses. The University is structured around four main departments, among which inculdes agricultural and environmental sciences. The scientific and research-oriented identity of the university is connected to its territory: the territory, land, subsoil, soil and climate are strictly associated with the culture that flourishes in the high Andes. The university has 12 recognized research groups and projects around the region. The Juan de Castellanos University Foundation is a non-profit organization with a strong focus on inclusive policies that welcome young people coming from the middle and lower classes from all over the region. |
