Founded in 2005, the Grassroots Institute is an independent action research, academic and capacity building organization. The organization aims to conduct innovative research, strengthen human development initiatives and take appropriate field action to empower indigenous peoples and other marginalized communities, and promote environmental and social consciousness as a societal change agent. The institute envisions positive change in which local communities and First Nations - who have been marginalized by environmental degradation, poverty, conflict and other injustices - gain control over their natural and biocultural resources, livelihoods and the policy decisions that affect their lives. |
