The Central Himalayan Institute for Nature and Applied Research (CHINAR) is a not-for-profit organization working on environmental sustainability for the sustainable development of mountain communities mainly in the Himalayan states of India (Himachal Pradesh, Laddakh in Jammu & Kashmir, and Uttarakhand). CHINAR is registered as a trust under the Trust Registration Act of 1882. The main goal of the organization is to promote sustainable mountain ecosystems for sustainable livelihoods. Their focus areas are biodiversity and ecosystem services, sustainable agriculture, climate change, livelihoods, energy (energy efficiency and renewable energy), freshwater, education (mainly environment education), capacity development, skill development and health, among others. To achieve its mission, CHINAR will be working on mountain research and development and will be addressing Sustainable Development Goals 1-13 and 15. The organization will also be working in line with national missions such as the Himalayan Mission. Capacity development activities will be undertaken by the organization to empower mountain communities for a better environment and improved livelihoods. |
