Federación Comercializadora de Café Especial de Guatemala (FECCEG) - located in the city of Quetzaltenango, Guatemala - was founded in 2006 with the purpose of supporting local small-scale coffee producers to overcome the enormous challenges of fluctuating prices and risks in the international coffee market. The organization works for the socioeconomic and environmental development of its partners, providing them with integral services such as technical assistance for organic production and processing, quality control assessment and trading in specialty markets, among others. Today, FECCEG partners with small-scale producers in nine departments of the Guatemalan Highlands, a land known for its majestic mountains dotted with volcanoes. FECCEG currently works with 15 small-scale producer organizations, which represent nearly 2 000 men and women producers of panela, honey, cocoa, coffee and sugar cane. These people belong to five different Mayan indigenous groups: Mam, Kiche, Ixil, Kaqchiquel and Popti. |
