The consortium for the protection of the Lamon Bean is a non-profit association of producers centred in the Lamon village but encompassing 20 municipalities in the Belluno Province, Veneto region, Italy. It involves around 100 farmers, with a total cultivated area of 13 hectares and a certified production of 16 000 kg of beans per year. In 1996, the bean obtained Protected Geographical Indication (IGP) status, awarded to products with total traceability, strong characteristics, high product recognition and economic sustainability on the market. |
