In memory of Antonio Aramayo

27.01.2023

We are deeply saddened to report the loss of Antonio "Tuco" Aramayo, who passed away on 18 January 2023. Throughout his professional career, Antonio was devoted to the rural development of the Chuquisaca regions of the Plurinational State of Bolivia. He was the General Manager of Fundación Participación y Sostenibilidad (PASOS), which has been a Mountain Partnership member since 2016.

Antonio was deeply committed to improving the lives of the most vulnerable mountain people. Together with Fundación PASOS, he worked tirelessly to support the economic revitalization of the Chuquisaca regions with positive impacts on local communities' food security.

As an engineer, Antonio was also a focal point of the Mountain Partnership Products Initiative. He represented Bolivian producers of black amaranth and melipona honey, promoting short, domestic value chains while ensuring transparency and trust between producers and consumers, fair compensation for the primary producers, and the conservation of agrobiodiversity.

Recently, Fundación PASOS' proposal for a grant through the Mountain Facility – a financing mechanism operated by the Mountain Partnership to respond to members' requests and needs – was one of five proposals that were selected. As he had wished, the Mountain Partnership Secretariat in collaboration with Fundación PASOS colleagues will continue his work to support vulnerable mountain communities.

The Mountain Partnership Secretariat extends its heartfelt condolences to his family and colleagues. Antonio's legacy will always be valued.
