The Mountain Partnership Secretariat (MPS) is currently compiling inputs for the 2025 United Nations Secretary-General (UNSG) report on sustainable mountain development.
Every three years, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) as the lead UN agency on mountains, together with the Mountain Partnership Secretariat, is tasked with preparing the UNSG report on sustainable mountain development, in collaboration with governments, relevant agencies of the UN system and NGOs. The 2025 report will be presented at the eightieth session of the United Nations General Assembly as requested by the latest UNGA resolution (
A/RES/77/172).
The 2025 UNSG report will also serve as a stocktake on the progress made towards the implementation of the Five Years of Action for the Development of Mountain Regions 2023–2027 at its mid-term.
This UNSG report is a significant opportunity to raise awareness about sustainable mountain development activities at global and local level as well as an opportunity to propose recommendations for the way forward. When drafting your contribution, please make reference to
the outline for the next report.
The UNSG report will provide selected examples and highlights of action, therefore we cannot guarantee that all the submissions will be reproduced in full or included in the final report. Our best efforts will be made to take all contributions into account. Submissions should have a focus on actions and outcomes and less on events held. The reporting period is from July 2022 to March 2025. Due to a strict limit of the report’s overall length, contributions should not exceed 150 words and may be sent to
[email protected] by
26 March 2025.
