The Mountain Partnership Secretariat has officially launched the second edition of its Mountain Future Award (MFA)! This year's MFA will contribute to the
International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation and seeks to spotlight initiatives that build resilience and empower vulnerable mountain communities and ecosystems in the face of rapidly retreating glaciers.
The theme of
International Mountain Day 2025 is “Glaciers matter for water, food and livelihoods in mountains and beyond” and the contest invites proposals that tackle glacier-related challenges and promote sustainable mountain development in the categories of
Innovation, Adaptation and Youth.
One winner will be selected from each of the categories, and the official award ceremony will take place during the International Mountain Day event on 11 December in FAO headquarters in Rome. The winner will receive a cash prize to support the implementation of the project and international recognition.
Applications are open to
individuals over 18, institutions and established organizations with original projects that are new or in the early stages of development.
The deadline for submissions is
31 October 2025. Proposals may be submitted in English, Spanish or French using the
