Global Landscapes Forum

The first Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) convened on Saturday and Sunday, 16 and 17 November 2013, at the University of Warsaw in Poland, on the sidelines of the 19th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 19) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). It combined into one event three of the world’s most influential annual conferences on the role of forests and agriculture in mitigating and adapting to climate change: Forest Day and Agriculture, Landscapes and Livelihoods Day and Mountain Day.

The landscapes approach provides a broad framework that can fully integrate agriculture, forestry, mountains and other land uses into a sustainable development agenda. It seeks to assess performance against broader development goals such as poverty eradication, green growth, food security and nutrition, mitigation of and adaptation to climate change, energy efficient cities, and sustainable land use and farm practices, according to the Global Landscapes Forum website.

A core objective of the event was to develop the potential of the landscape approach to inform future UNFCCC agreements and discussions of the sustainable development goals (SDGs). The Mountain Partnership participated in the GLF with a session called “Building Climate Change Resilience in Mountains”.
