Cases of peatland management
This web page presents case studies of peatland management submitted by different institutions. Assessment of peatland management practices are needed to understand the impacts of different human activities on livelihoods as well as land subsidence, greenhouse gas emissions, water quality, biodiversity and other ecosystem services.
The case studies describe practices related to rewetting, paludiculture (or production of biomass, such as fish, or other species on wet and rewetted peatlands), degraded pasture restoration, forestry practices, aquaculture and fishery. Each case study is evaluated against the same parameters: environmental characteristics, socio-economic impact, cost-benefit assessment and the impact on ecosystem services and climate change.
