FAO Regional Office for Near East and North Africa

The meeting of the eleventh session of the Regional Commission for Fisheries, which will be held virtually from 25 to October 27 2021, coincides with the twentieth anniversary since the Commission's first meeting in 2001.

The agenda includes many vital issues and topics related to supporting joint action, optimal and sustainable exploitation of fish resources, and sustainable development of fish farming in the region.

The event will also deal with activating cooperation with relevant organizations, raising work efficiency, and starting the role of the authority and its support.

It is worth noting that the Regional Commission for Fisheries, in its previous meeting, adopted the decision to regulate the fisheries of kingfish, related to the closure of the fishing season for a period of two months from August 15 to October 15 of each year, and it was implemented in all countries in the region during the year 2020 and the current year 2021. The Commission hopes to continue efforts and take the necessary measures following the scientific recommendations and the reality of fisheries in the region.
