Regional Workshop on the Sound Management of Pesticides in the NENA Region

28/11/2022-30/11/2022

Amman, Jordan, from 28 to 30 November 2022.

Pesticides can play a crucial role in agriculture, achieving food security and improving farmers' livelihoods. However, the negative effects of pesticides on the environment, non-target beneficial organisms, and human health are often much greater than the benefits of using pesticides to control pests and diseases. The growing international concerns about the harm that highly hazardous pesticides (HHPs) can cause to human health and the environment have led many stakeholders to start addressing the issue.

FAO Regional Office for Near East and North Africa (FAO-RNE) is organizing a Regional workshop entitled “regional workshop on the sound management of pesticides in the NENA region. This workshop is considered a crucial component toward developing a plan for FAO to better support sustainable pesticide management in the region. The regional workshop will strengthen the national regulatory authority in conducting more scientific-based evaluations and registration of pesticides. In Addition, will provide an opportunity for participants across the region to share their perspectives, and views, which will help in planning and designing relevant FAO support programs for pesticide management in NENA countries.
