Third Inter-Regional Workshop on RAMSES and eLocust2

The Regional Office for the Near East of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations will organize the Third Inter-Regional Workshop on RAMSES and eLocust2, jointly between the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in the Central Region (CRC) and the Commission for Controlling the Desert Locust in South West Asia (SWAC) from 9:00 a.m. in its HQs in Cairo, Egypt (11, El-Eslah El-Zerai Street, Dokki) during the period 18-19 April 2010.
An expert from the Desert Locust Information Service (DLIS) in FAO Rome will lead and conduct this workshop.
This workshop is considered as the third of this kind to be held in Cairo, with the objective to provide the concerned member countries with the advanced computer technology and programmes (RAMSES) used for data monitoring on Desert Locust ecology and survey. Additionally the member countries will be informed on Desert Locust field reporting system (eLocust2). Problems encountered in the use of both systems during the last period will be discussed and possible solutions will be provided.
The workshop will be attended by Locust Officers from the Desert Locust Centres in the Central Region: Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Yemen; and the South West Asia Region: India, Iran and Pakistan, in addition to the Western Region: Libya and Algeria.
