Workshop on ?Strengthening Food and Agricultural Statistics in the Arab Countries

The Arab Institute for Training and Research in Statistics (AITRS) in collaboration with the Regional Office for the Near East of the Food & Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO/RNE) and the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) will organize a workshop on “Strengthening Food and Agricultural Statistics in the Arab Countries”, in Amman during the period from 20 – 24 July 2008.
The workshop aims to focus on ways to strengthen the capacity of the institutions in the development of agricultural statistics particularly the analysis of food security and poverty, countrySTAT, and agriculture census and surveys. In addition, the workshop will address the importance of quality data and information in analyzing for the purpose of serving different users including policy and decision makers. Also, this will be an opportunity to address the current issue of increasing food prices at country, regional and international level, and ways to monitor the prices of major food items.
