ALAWUC: Sixth Session of Agriculture and Land and Water Use Commission for the Near East

The Agriculture and Land and Water Use Commission for the Near East (ALAWUC/NE) holds its Sixth Session in Khartoum, Sudan, from November 30 to December 2, 2010. 

The session agenda comprises the following:

  1. Report on action taken by FAO for implementation of the recommendations of the 5th Session 
  2. Groundwater management in the Near East 
  3. A coordinated integrated approach for the control of animal diseases emerging at the animalecosystem interface in the Near East

  1. Drinking water quality concerns for animal health and production 
  2. Update on promotion, ratification and implementation of the Rotterdam Convention in the Near East region 
  3. Strengthening of plant protection and plant quarantine capabilities in the region: establishment of and operational arrangements for the Near East Plant Protection Organization (NEPPO) 
  4. Spate irrigation in the Near East: Situation and prospects for improving its management and performance 
  5. Capacity building on drought monitoring and early warning systems for drought preparedness and impact mitigation.
