Workshop on the Integration of Emergency and Development Activities in the Near East and North Africa Region (RNE)
The “Workshop on the Integration of Emergency and Development Activities in the Near East and North Africa Region (RNE)” was held from 19-21 June 2012 in Tunis, Tunisia.
The event brought together FAO staff from headquarters, regional, subregional and country offices involved in the integration of emergency and development activities in selected countries of RNE: Iraq, Lebanon, Mauritania, the Sudan, Syria, the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and Yemen.
The event brought together FAO staff from headquarters, regional, subregional and country offices involved in the integration of emergency and development activities in selected countries of RNE: Iraq, Lebanon, Mauritania, the Sudan, Syria, the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and Yemen.

The workshop aimed to achieve a shared understanding of:
1. the new model of a full integration of emergency and development activities managed at country, subregional and regional levels;
2. its implications in terms of roles and responsibilities at country, subregional, regional and headquarters levels; and
3. the roadmap for its smooth implementation in the seven selected countries.
The main expected outputs were:
1. functions, roles and responsibilities at country, subregional, regional and headquarters levels in the framework of the new model are clearly defined, and the matrix of new responsibilities is adopted;
2. FAORs are informed about the main new functions deriving from the integration process;
3. main capacity gaps and related capacity building/transfer actions are identified based on the capacity assessment exercise in the selected countries; and
4. country work plans and a regional work plan for the integration process are prepared and agreed upon.
