FAO organizes a tree-planting event at the Baabda Forest to celebrate the International Day of Forests

21/03/2015-21/03/2015

The FAO Representation in   Lebanon, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Terre Liban,   is organizing a tree-planting event at the Baabda Forest on Saturday 21 March   from 10:30 – 12:00 am. Mr. Ross Mountain, United Nations Resident Coordinator   in Lebanon, will participate in this event.

In 2012, the United Nations General Assembly has issued a resolution   declaring 21 March of each year as the International Day of Forests (IDF) and   designated FAO and UNFF as lead agencies for its implementation globally. The theme for 2015 IDF is Forest and Trees – Climate Change”.

The event starts with a   short speech by Mr. Maurice Saade, FAO Representative in Lebanon, about the   International Day of Forest. This will be followed by the planting of 70   trees by FAO and UN staff in the Baabda Forest, which was ravaged by a huge   fire in 2014. This event is part of planned activities throughout 2015 to   celebrate the 70th anniversary for the establishment of FAO.
