Regional Consultation on Livestock’s Contribution to Food Security in the Near East and North Africa region
To validate FAO’s comprehensive study the Contribution of Livestock to Food Security in the Countries of the Near East and North Africa region, this Regional Consultation will bring togother more than 65 experts and FAO partners, to discuss the following:
• Livestock trends and drivers: global, regional and country-level overviews
• Status and identified priorities of action for animal health, zoonoses, food safety, and veterinary capacities in the NENA region
• Natural resources in the region: rangelands, feed resources, water
• State of animal genetic resources and impacts of climate change
• Livestock sector in a crisis context
• Livestock commercialization, food loss and waste
• Policies shaping the livestock sector in NENA
• Roundtables discussions on the following:
o Status and identified priorities of action for animal health, zoonoses, food safety, and veterinary capacities
o Natural resources: feeds, rangelands, water
o Food loss and waste
o Animal genetic resources
o Livestock value chains, trade, competitiveness, policies
o Critical areas for regional engagement and strategic dialogue
