Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands (ACSAD) will open a regional bureau in the State of Kuwait, a Kuwaiti official announced here on Wednesday.

ACSAD's general assembly has approved a Kuwaiti request to establish the regional office in Kuwait, said Jassem Al-Bader, Board Chairman of Kuwait's Environment Public Authority (EPA) in a statement to KUNA.

Al-Bader, who was speaking on fringes of ACSAD's 32nd general assembly, said the regional bureau in Kuwait would serve all GCC countries in domains of information exchange, cadres' training, agriculture, livestock, food and water security.

The center member states approved opening the office in Kuwait in response to a request, forwarded by EPA, he explained to KUNA.

EPA has already opened an office for the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Kuwait.

Al-Bader did not specify when ACSAD's regional office would open in Kuwait, but indicated that the move would be coordinated with the Arab League. EPA will cover all expenses of establishing the ACSAD bureau, he added.

Kuwait is one of ACSAD's founders and is an effective member in the establishment.

Also during today's meeting, Kuwait was elected the chairman of ACSAD's executive board for a three-year term.
