Investment to improve food and nutrition security in GCC countries and Yemen Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosts a workshop in collaboration with FAO

Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represented by the Ministry of Agriculture is hosting the sub-regional consultative workshop on "Investing in food and nutrition security in GCC and Yemen", during next Tuesday and Wednesday, with the participation of a number of Gulf officials and experts from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). ?The workshop comes as an output of the close cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and FAO, and aims to support the investment in food security all over the world? said dr. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia represented by the Ministry of Agriculture is hosting the sub-regional consultative workshop on "Investing in food and nutrition security in GCC and Yemen", during next Tuesday and Wednesday, with the participation of a number of Gulf officials and experts from Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) .

“The workshop comes as an output of the close cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and FAO, and aims to support the investment in food security all over the world” said dr. Khaled Alfuhaid, Agriculture Deputy minister & National coordinator for Technical Cooperation Programme.

He added that the workshop will discuss many crucial initiatives and experiments related to the food security, and he pointed out that the workshop is organized in line with continuous efforts exerted by the kingdom in the regional and international field to achieve sustainable food security in the gulf and whole world.

Dr. Abdallah Oihabi, FAO Programme Coordinator in the Kingdom said that the workshop will address a number of key issues, which include the presentation of FAO programs and activities in the Arabian Gulf region, and the ongoing projects of technical cooperation program (TCP) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

He added that the workshop will address the trends and impacts of the agricultural investment in some developing countries, in addition to the key principles for responsible agricultural investment.

During the activities of the workshop, participants will present the experience of Egypt and Sudan as recipient countries of the foreign investment, as well as the experiences of GCC States. During the workshop the important role of food security information systems will be also discussed.

The workshop is a continuation of the efforts made by Saudi Arabia in the regional and international cooperation to achieve sustainable food security in the Kingdom, the Arab countries and the entire world.
