FAO takes part into the Egypt economic development Conference

Cairo, 12 March 2015 - The development of the agricultural sector in Egypt is key to a successful implementation of the national development plan. This is reflected in the commitment of the Government of Egypt to expanding the cultivated land through land reclamation and through the use of modern irrigation technologies. The “One Million Acre Project” is an outstanding example of this commitment.

Following the bilateral meeting between H.E. the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah Al Sisi and Mr. Jose Graziano da Silva Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization last November, FAO confirms participation in Egypt’s Economic Development Conference that will be held in Sharm El Sheikh during on 13 – 15 March 2015. FAO’s participation reaffirms its willingness to further strengthen its collaboration with Egypt in its efforts to develop the agricultural sector in the country and increase the resilience of its food security systems.

FAO’s delegation will be led by Mr. Abdessalam Ould Ahmed, FAO Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for the Near East and North Africa and a group of experts from the Organization.

FAO acknowledges the strategic role technical support, reliable information and accurate data play in the development of agribusiness, which is one of the most important income generating sectors in Egypt.

FAO is providing technical assistance to the implementation of the Government “One Million Acre Project”. Sustainable development of agriculture, management of water and sustainable food systems will be the main domains FAO will support within this frame.
